Health and Human Services

The mission of the Health and Human Services facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources. Community education about health risks is crucial and the Bergen County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated plays a significant role in providing that education. Our chapter partnered with the American Heart Association in a movement health initiative by presenting a Dance and Movement Night. (see below) Also, the chapter presented numerous presentations about healthy eating habits to the children at the Bergen Family Center in Englewood.

A Night of Dance

February 2014: A capacity crowd came out on February 28th for "A Night of Dance". Links Nellie Jenkins and Ann Guillory led the event held in partnership with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. "I had a blast", said Link Marsha Mackey. "It was a great way to burn calories." Said Link Minnie Adams, "Kudos to the HHS facet! Great music, great dancing, great food. So much fun!"

Commemorating

World AIDS Day

Once again, the Chapter supported the annual commemoration of World AIDS Day in Bergen County. Members attended a prayer service coordinated by Buddies of NJ, Inc., a group that provides resources and services for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The evening event featured dance, prayer, meditation and recognition of those who have died from the devastating disease. This year, the theme was "Getting to Zero: Zero New Infections, Zero Stigma, Zero Deaths from AIDS".
